JACKSON, WY (February 27, 2008) - Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk who left a promising career in cellular genetics in France to study Buddhism in the Himalayas 35 years ago. Ricard will teach one workshop and offer an evening lecture on Saturday, June 21st at the Center Theater in Jackson, Wyoming. This rare opportunity is being presented by: the Center of Wonder, Pursue Balance and the Teton Wellness Festival.
Ricard is an active participant in current scientific research on the effects of meditation on the brain.
“Mattieu is one of the monks who is used in experiments to determine the impact of mediation on the brain and is in a unique position to talk about his direct experience and findings from that research..”Marcia Craighead
As a trained scientist and Buddhist monk, he has a unique position to discuss the connection between spirituality and science, mind and body.
Ricard ‘ s work looks at “why” we should be interested in meditation and “what” the impact is on the brain when we mediate. This research empowers people to continue practicing meditation and encourages those interested in starting a mediation practice because of the evidence based research which supports the claim that when we meditate the changes in the brain are linked to the changes in our world.
